Carolina Liquid Chemistries introduces an automated direct whole blood HbA1C assay for the BioLis 24i Benchtop Chemistry Analyzer.

Carolina Liquid Chemistries introduces an automated direct whole blood HbA1C assay for the BioLis 24i Benchtop Chemistry Analyzer. With this direct method the whole blood sample is loaded onto the BioLis 24i which automatically dilutes, lyses, and analyzes the whole blood specimen. Direct HbA1C throughput on the BioLis 24i is 240 tests per hour and does not have to be run in batch mode. This liquid ready-to-use reagent is NGSP approved, stable on-board for 30 days, and has calibration stability of 14 days.

The direct whole blood assay is an improvement over current HbA1C instrumentation and procedures because of the elimination of errors associated with manual lysing and the elimination of interferences from sickle cell and thalassemia fractions. This Carolina Liquid Chemistries’ assay uses as little as 60ul of whole blood, is linear to 13.8%, and has within run precision of 1.5%. Correlation with HPLC elicits a slope of 0.998, an intercept of 0.16, and standard error of 0.38%.

The addition of direct HbA1c enhances the BioLis 24i as a special chemistry analyzer by adding to its comprehensive 100 test menu. Other BioLis diabetes associated tests include Fructosamine, Microalbumin, and Glucose. The BioLis 24i has the capacity of 39 on-board chemistries which could include such esoteric tests as Cystatin C, IgG, Transferrin, D dimer, Haptoglobin, micro Total Protein, Homocysteine,

Lp(a), Insulin as well as tests for Lipid, Comprehensive, Basic, Renal and Hepatic panels.

HbA1c is a compound created when excess blood sugar sticks to hemoglobin. The higher the glucose level, the higher the HbA1c. However, HbA1c is formed over time. HbA1c result provides a picture of blood glucose levels over the time, typically 2 to 3 months. An HbA1c result determines how well the diabetic treatment plan is working.

Carolina Liquid Chemistries continues to improve the way assays are performed on chemistry analyzers. For more information about automated HbA1C on the BioLis 24i bench top analyzer, please call 1-877-722-8910 or [email protected]
